What is Klanglabor@BrixenClassics 2021?

Festival 2021

From 06.-20. June 2021 Klanglabor@BrixenClassics project will take place in the beautiful city of Brixen. Brixen is located in South Tyrol, in northern Italy in the middle of the Alps.

Under the direction of the musical director of the Brixen Classics, Daniel Geiss, a wide variety of concert and chamber music programs will be worked on for two weeks and performed at breathtaking concert venues. Together with world-famous singers and the lecturers Stanko Madic (concert master Bavarian Radio), Arthur Hornig (principal cellist Deutsche Oper Berlin and principal cellist Bayreuth Festival Orchestra), Julia Okruashvili (Cologne University of Music), the project enables an education approach that gives young musicians an opportunity to learn with and from professionals.

Flying Dutchman (Wagner)

In addition to numerous orchestral and chamber concerts, one of the highlights of this year’s festival is Richard Wagner’s Flying Dutchman in a version specially arranged by Daniel Geiss for the festival, which can also take place under Corona conditions.

Full Scholarship

All selected musicians and singers will be scholarship holders of the Klanglabor@BrixenClassics. This includes:

  • Full scholarship
  • free housing during the festival
  • free board during the festival
  • Participation in orchestral concerts with Daniel Geiss and the lecturers
  • Cooperation with world-famous soloists
  • Chamber concerts
  • Workshops with lecturers
  • free transport during the Festival

By registering, the applicant declares his / her consent as a scholarship holder to be available for the Klanglabor@BrixenClassics 2021 during the entire duration of the festival (06.06-2021).

The scholarship holder is responsible for the costs of travel to and from the festival.

Chamber Music

Throughout the festival there will be chamber concerts at various locations in the city and the surrounding area, in which students and professionals perform together in small groups. In this way, the solo approach is to be promoted within an ensemble.

The Brixen Classics Festival has set itself the task that in addition to world stars putting education at the center of the festival. In the Klanglabor@BrixenFestival young instrumentalists have the opportunity to be part of the festival as a scholarship holder. Strings, wind players, percussionists, pianists and harpists can apply. To do this, log on to our website and add a video next to a CV. The video should contain the following:

Strings: 

  • two works of your choice in different styles and stylistics

Wood winds:

  • two works of your choice in different styles and stylistics

Brass:

  • one piece of your choice
  • two orchestra excerpts of your choice

Harp:

  • Fantasy in c minor by Louis Spohr until including first cadenca
  • the following three orchestra excerpts: Nutcracker cadenza, from Ouverture Forza del destino, Tannhäuser 1st act

Timpani/Percussion:

  • Pauke: Krüger, Etude No. 45 (First part felt, second part flannel)
  • Xylophon: Saint-Saens Carneval No. 12 Fossiles, Hansel and Gretel
  • Snare drum: Kauer, 6/8el-Etude

Piano:

  • One movement of a classcal sonata
  • one piece of your choice
  • Saint-Saens Carneval No. 3 Hémiones

The Brixen Classics Festival has set itself the task that in addition to world stars putting education at the center of the festival. In the Klanglabor@BrixenFestival young singers have the opportunity to become part of the festival as vocal academics. In addition to a workshop with Hedwig Fassbender, selected singers have the opportunity to share the stage side by side with world-famous colleagues such as Camilla Nylund or Piotr Beczala. In addition, we offer you the opportunity to work with lecturers and instrumentalists to gain experience in chamber music under professional guidance.

A selection will be made from the videos submitted. A second round is expected to take place in Brixen in April.
